Two years after helping Nigeria win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Japan in 1993, the left-midfield grafter joined German side 1.FC Kaiserslautern II which were campaigning in the Regionalliga West (3rd division). He helped the team to rapidly move up the divisions and by the 1997/98 season he was already celebrating a league title with the team. He spent another three seasons at the club before moving to FC Koln in Bundesliga 2.. After a good season with Köln in the 1999–2000 2. Bundesliga, Ojigwe moved to Champions League participant and local rival Bayer 04 Leverkusen where he reached the Champions League final in 2002 and finished runner-up in the League and DFB-Pokal Cup same season.
